Adam Hurwitz: DJ
As an artist and occasional DJ I had been looking for a venue to marry my connections to the visual art community and DJ culture. After hearing a few artists spin records at various art-opening after-parties, I realized that there was a small but intense subculture of artist DJs.That's when I conceived of the idea of creating a venue for visual artists to express themselves musically thus Spinart was born. The first two events were held at retro-futuristic Chelsea Lounge, Glass, and featured artists, Nicole Eisenman, Jeff Gaunt, David Humphrey, Adam Raymont, Alex Ross, and Christian Schumann. With the success of the Glass parties, Spinart became a monthly party in the lounge of German beer garden, Loreley on the Lower East Side and featured guest artists Nayland Blake, and Erik Parker as well as appearances from the original Spinart artists. Spinart went on hiatus at the end of 2006. For inquiries about joining future Spinart events, email me at Spinart@adamhurwitz.com.
